Corps awards $61.4 million border barrier contract

PHOENIX, Ariz.--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Pacific Border District awarded a $61.4 million contract modification April 3 to SLS Company, Ltd., of Galveston, Texas, for approximately 2.4 miles of barrier construction along the U.S. southern border near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in the El Paso, Texas, U.S. Border Patrol sector. Work is expected to be completed by Dec. 31.

USACE is providing direction and oversight for Department of Defense-funded construction of border barrier projects from California to Texas. These projects are being executed by USACE, as directed through the U.S. Army by the Secretary of Defense, in response to the Presidential national emergency declaration dated Feb. 15, 2019, requiring the use of the armed forces and authorizing the use of Section 2808 of Title 10, U.S. Code.
