    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District inducted retired employee Kelli Johnson into its Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees in a ceremony May 8 at the District headquarters in Los Angeles. The induction was in conjunction with the District's annual Retiree Recognition Day. Nearly three dozen retirees participated in the day's activities, which included a breakfast social, commander's update and catered lunch.

    USACE Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations Maj. Gen. Scott Spellmon inducted South Pacific Division Regional Business Director John Moreno into the Senior Executive Service at a ceremony in the Los Angeles District Jan. 10. Moreno’s wife Joann, grandson Edward Lopez, and nephew Jonathan Ochoa participated in the presentation of the induction pin, reciting of the oath of office, and uncasing and unfurling of the flag of the Senior Executive Service. Moreno has more than 26 years of experience with the Corps and now provides executive leadership and direction for the South Pacific Division and its four subordinate Districts in operating as a Regional Business Center.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General and 53rd Chief of Engineers Lt. Gen. Thomas Bostick promoted South Pacific Division Commander Col. Mark Toy to the rank of brigadier general Aug. 15 in a ceremony at the Eagle's Nest Clubhouse, Cypress, California.

    Los Angeles County Public Works Deputy Director Mark Pestrella, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Los Angeles District Commander Col. Mark Toy ceremonially turn dirt Feb. 22 for the start of the $7 million Tujunga Wash Ecosystem Restoration project that will extend greening along the sides of a 3/4-mile stretch of concrete channel in the San Fernando Valley that carries runoff from Hansen Dam to the Los Angeles River.

    LOS ANGELES--U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and Los Angeles County officials broke ground Feb. 22 on a project designed to restore degraded habitat in the San Fernando Valley. Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Public Works Deputy Director Mark Pestrella and District Commander Col.
