U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers South Pacific Division Commander promoted To Brigadier General
SAN FRANCISCO – The Army Chief of Engineers Lieutenant General Robert Van Antwerp promoted Colonel Scott F. ‘Rock’ Donahue to the rank of Brigadier General at a formal ceremony at the South Pacific Division Command Headquarters in San Francisco on April 9, 2010. As Commander of the South Pacific Division, Brigadier General Donahue is the senior active duty Army general officer in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He is responsible for a 2,473-strong workforce and a $1-billion federal program that includes civil works, military construction and environmental restoration. The civil works program is oriented around major watersheds in the region and leverages federal resources in partnership with state and local governments to improve navigation, flood damage reduction, and ecosystem restoration.
Brig. Gen. Donahue was commissioned into the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1983 from the Virginia Military Institute as a distinguished academic and military graduate. Prior to taking command of the South Pacific Division, he served as XVIII Airborne Corps Engineer and as Director, Multi-National Corps – Iraq C7 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia.
Brig. Gen. Donahue is married to the former Nancy Kelley of Andover, MA. They have four children: son Eric (1st Lieutenant, HHC/2-505 PIR, 82d Airborne Division; enroute to 1st Ranger BN), and three daughters—Jenna (Senior/ROTC Cadet, Carson-Newman College), and Taylor and Morgan (15). Their daughter-in-law, Captain Claudia Donahue, is currently assigned to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Bragg.
