South Pacific Division congratulates newest Senior Executive Service member

USACE Public Affairs
Dr. Christine Altendorf took the oath of office at a promotion recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C., to become the newest member of the Senior Executive Service at South Pacific Division Headquarters on January 28, 2010.
“I am truly grateful for the people that believed I could do way more that I thought I could do,” she said. “Getting here was the result of many mentors, coaches, and co-workers who guided me and supported me throughout my career.”
The Senior Executive Service consists of leaders who possess well-honed executive skills and share a broad perspective of government and a public service commitment which is grounded in the Constitution.
Members of the SES serve in the key positions just below the top Presidential appointees. SES members working for the DoD have status equivalent to general or admiral rank of their uniformed counterparts.
As the South Pacific Division's Director of Programs, Dr. Altendorf provides strategic leadership and technical expertise to the Division and its four operating districts.
Dr. Altendorf oversees a large civil works and military program and helps foster and strengthen relationships with the Division’s strategic partners and stakeholders.
“I am here because it’s time to pay back, time to make sure others get the same opportunities that I have had,” she said.
Those opportunities highlight a career with the USACE that spans almost 15 years and across the globe.
“Tulsa, Kansas City, Washington DC, Sacramento, San Francisco, Iraq, Harvard, Capital Hill, Hurricane Rita, multiple developmental assignments, and many other stops gave me an opportunity to work with great people whom taught me a lot and helped me along the way.”
Dr Altendorf previously served as the Deputy District Engineer for Project Management at Sacramento District.
“I am truly blessed and honored to have reached this point and I look forward to the many new challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.”
