Kassner Journalism Competition Awards SPD Winners

Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), congratulated the winners of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ annual contest, the Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition on March 31, 2014.

“Building Strong is not just for engineers, architects, and scientists,” said Bostick. “It applies equally to journalists, lawyers, accountants, park rangers, and all the career fields in the Corps of Engineers.  Contests like the Kassner Journalism Competition set a high standard for the public affairs field.  Congratulations to all of the winners.”

There were 270 entries in the contest, named for Herb Kassner, a long-time and highly-respected Public Affairs Officer of the former Lower Mississippi Valley Division. Many South Pacific Division public affairs specialist are among the first place winners or received an honorable mention for their communication efforts over the past year.

The categories include print journalism, broadcast journalism, and community relations efforts performed by Army public affairs professionals. Judges from civilian and government public affairs offices volunteered to score the applicants.
