Army Corps of Engineers publishes proposed rule on protection of historic properties
The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works released a proposed rule to remove Appendix C from the United States Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Program’s permitting regulations. The Corps will instead follow Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act implementing regulations, at 36 C.F.R. § 800 (800 regulations), when processing permit applications.

LA commander visits shoreline communities, meets with local governments

USACE set to begin vegetation removal along Lower San Joaquin River ahead of levee construction work next spring
Crews will begin trimming trees and removing vegetation along the Lower San Joaquin River as soon as October 17, 2024, to allow access for construction vehicles and machinery to complete levee improvements at river mile 30 of Tenmile Slough. Workers will be in the area for approximately two weeks during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New Army Civil Works program announces 18 proposals are being invited to apply for federal financing for non-federal dam safety project
The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today announced the first set of proposals being invited to apply for loans under the new Corps Water Infrastructure Financing Program (CWIFP). CWIFP is a new federal financing program to provide loans and loan guarantees for borrowers for safety projects to maintain, upgrade, and repair non-federal dams.

Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam closed to public until Spring 2025
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has begun modifications on Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam (MIAD) in association with the Folsom Dam Raise Project, and public access to the area is now closed until mid-2025.
