Record turnout, eagle sightings during annual eagle surveys at two USACE lakes
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Abiquiu Lake, N.M., and John Martin Reservoir, Colo., recently held mid-winter bald eagle surveys where volunteers and USACE staff counted eagles to help get information on eagle trends, distribution, and habitat at each lake. A record turnout of approximately 100 volunteers spotted eight eagles during the annual event at Abiquiu Lake. 78 eagles were sighted at the event at John Martin Reservoir.

More than 60 volunteers and staff at three Albuquerque District lakes spent a January Saturday morning counting eagles during the annual Midwinter Bald Eagle Watch Survey. A total of 67 eagles were counted Jan. 8, 2022.

The Albuquerque District welcomes volunteers to continue the annual tradition of public service by participating in this year’s National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24. There will be events at Abiquiu Lake, Cochiti Lake, and Conchas Lake, N.M. and at John Martin Reservoir and Trinidad Lake in Colorado.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at John Martin Reservoir will host their annual midwinter eagle survey, Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at the reservoir. The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and will include an informational presentation about eagles.
