The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law.
Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

    Albuquerque District representatives hosted a successful visit with Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández at Abiquiu Lake and Reservoir, July 10, 2021.

    Maj. Gen. Heather L. Pringle, commander, Air Force Research Laboratory (left) and Maj. Katrina C. Johns, deputy commander, Albuquerque District, USACE (right), and other AFRL and USACE leaders, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the AFRL Space Warfighting Operations Research & Development Laboratory (SWORD) held on Kirtland Air Force Base, May 20, 2021. This facility replaces six older building that are spread out across the Phillips Research Site. The building includes a 5,000 square foot, high-bay laboratory, as well as an additional 5,000 square feet of secure office, laboratory, and meeting space. The project cost was $12.8 million.

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the AFRL Space Warfighting Operations Research & Development Laboratory (SWORD) was held May 20, 2021, on Kirtland Air Force Base.

    KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, and the Air Force Research Laboratory held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction for the Skywave Laboratory March 16, 2021 at Kirtland Air Force Base. The 3,500 square-foot building will house several lab areas, lab support space, an administrative area, a break area, and exterior equipment platforms. The facility will be used to improve and augment Air Force Research Laboratory transition technologies.

    The staff at Trinidad has recently added bee-keeping to their list of ongoing projects. This beekeeping venture is the brainchild of Kyle Sisco, natural resources specialist, Trinidad Lake.

    KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, NM- Lt. Col. Patrick M. Stevens, commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District, (far right) joined Air Force leaders and other team members to break ground on a new Air Force Research Laboratory facility addition August 4, 2020. The 10,000 sq. ft. facility will be used to study and advance Directed Energy capabilities for the U.S. Warfighter. The new addition will be used to plan, develop prototype, test and deploy high-powered radio frequency weapons systems. The total project cost is $5.5 million dollars, and is scheduled for completion in March 2021.

    USACE/Air Force Research Laboratory break ground on AFRL building

    USACE-Albuquerque District and the Air Force Research Laboratory recently broke ground on a new AFRL building at Kirtland Air Force Base.
