Resident Engineer gives back to veterans with hometown USACE district
As a student at John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento, Earl Chow once attended a presentation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District. Intrigued by their mission and projects, Chow decided to pursue a career in civil engineering. Now, he’s the resident engineer for the Department of Veterans Affairs Stockton project with the District.

Corps river and creek cleanup project removes 575 tons of debris
Work began daybreak on Sept. 27 in San Jose Creek. Contractors hauled trash, shopping carts, bundles of Arundo donax reeds used to build campsites, abandoned vehicles, propane tanks and gasoline cans from abandoned illegal campsites. Scores of big dumpsters were filled and refilled until the last semi pulled away.

New trial for using advanced weather forecasts to retain more water proves successful
A new report evaluating a pilot program to use advanced weather and streamflow forecasts to enhance water storage capabilities at a Riverside County, California, dam found that enough water could be conserved to supply an additional 60,000 people per year.

Bay Model set to reopen March 5
The Bay Model Visitor Center (BMVC) plans to reopen to the public this Friday. The facility, which is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District, has been closed since March 17, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

State Park trails near Folsom Lake to close for improvements
On Thursday, November 4, 2021, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will begin improvements to the Pioneer Express Trail from the south side of the Beals Point entrance road south to the American River Bike Trail. Once improvements are complete, the district will make similar improvements to the nearby Beals Point to Granite Bay multi-use trail from the north side of the Beals Point entrance road to Granite Bay.

Final environmental documents released for USFS visitor center relocation in Lake Isabella
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has released its final supplemental environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for the relocation of the U.S. Forest Service visitor center at the Isabella Lake Dam Safety Modification Project in Kern County.
