    Eagle surveys held at six USACE-Albuquerque District lakes in January

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at six USACE-Albuquerque District lakes conducted midwinter eagle surveys in January. The surveys took place at Abiquiu, Cochiti, Conchas and Santa Rosa lakes in New Mexico, and Trinidad Lake and John Martin Reservoir in Colorado. A total of 49 bald and golden eagles were spotted this year at the lakes.

    USACE staff at Cochiti Lake, N.M., and John Martin Reservoir, Colo., gave volunteers the opportunity to give back to the public lands they love and utilize throughout the year through special projects for National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.

    Record turnout, eagle sightings during annual eagle surveys at two USACE lakes

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Abiquiu Lake, N.M., and John Martin Reservoir, Colo., recently held mid-winter bald eagle surveys where volunteers and USACE staff counted eagles to help get information on eagle trends, distribution, and habitat at each lake. A record turnout of approximately 100 volunteers spotted eight eagles during the annual event at Abiquiu Lake. 78 eagles were sighted at the event at John Martin Reservoir.

    John Martin Dam and Reservoir recently celebrated it's 75-year diamond anniversary.

    Promotion at John Martin Reservoir

    Jacob Pauley, chief, Operations Division, recently performed a Supervisor Promotion Ceremony for Jake Williams, the new Operations Project Manager for the Albuquerque District’s John Martin Dam.
