Russian River Coho Salmon Captive Broodstock Program
Fisheries biologists from the Pacific States Marines Commission tag a female coho salmon at the Don Clausen Warm Springs Hatchery. The Russian River was once home to tens of thousands of coho, steelhead and chinook salmon. By 2001, coho salmon were brought to the brink of extinction and federal, state and local government agencies, along with non-profit groups started the Russian River Coho Salmon Broodstock Program. Watch the video to see how the program is bringing Coho Salmon in the Russian River Watershed back from the brink. (U.S. Army photo by Brandon Beach/Released)
