SACRAMENTO, California -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will host an informal public meeting April 11 in Smartsville to share information regarding cleanup efforts of potentially hazardous materials at the former Camp Beale, located 10 miles east of Marysville near Beale Air Force Base.
USACE is conducting a remedial investigation of the site for soil contaminants and buried unexploded munitions used during the 1940s and 1950s while the site was a military training post. Two areas of the site, the Northwest and West Central Combined Use Areas, have been identified as having potential explosive hazards.
There will be no formal presentation during the meeting, however USACE will share information on the fieldwork schedule and how the results and data of the current remedial investigation will be used and reported to the public.
Additional information on the site’s history, the Military Munitions Response Program and the Formerly Used Defense Site Program, as well as munitions awareness and educational materials will also be available.
