Stanislaus River Parks camping reservations are now online

SACRAMENTO, California – Campers at Stanislaus River Parks can now reserve spots at the McHenry and Valley Oak Campgrounds on recreation.gov, the official website for securing reservations at more than 3,500 federal facilities and 100,000 individual sites across the country.

McHenry and Valley Oak are primitive campgrounds with vault-style toilets and non-potable water. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and a lantern holder. Campers must park their vehicles in a designated lot and hike in approximately a quarter-mile to their spots.

The nine Stanislaus River Parks are scattered along the lower Stanislaus River within the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and are often referred to as the “string of pearls” since they serve as charming, quiet oases running through a number of small towns and cities. One of which, the Knights Ferry Recreation Area, houses a National Historical Landmark with the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi River. Popular activities at Stanislaus River Parks include rafting, kayaking, hiking, and picnicking.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is one of America’s largest providers of federal outdoor recreation, serving more than 370 million visitors annually at 422 lake and river recreation parks in 43 states.
