Environmental report for Marysville Ring Levee utility relocations out for public review

Published Dec. 11, 2020

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has released a draft supplemental environmental assessment for utility relocations as part of its Marysville Ring Levee Phases 2B and 3 work in Marysville, and will host a virtual public meeting December 15 to discuss the document.

Part of the larger Marysville Ring Levee project, which will upgrade the 7.6 miles of levee that surround the city, Phases 2B and 3 are located along the existing levee south of 1st Street, north and west of the Yuba River, and east of A Street, 12th Street, and Hwy 20. Utility relocations are necessary to complete these phases; however, design refinements made to the project since the last environmental document in 2019 mean a supplemental environmental report was required.

The supplemental environmental documents are available for public review and comment for 30 days, with comments due by January 11, 2021. The documents can be found at the project web page at https://www.spk.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Marysville-Ring-Levee/.

USACE and its partners will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, to discuss the supplemental documents, answer questions, and accept public comments. The virtual meeting is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Information for accessing the virtual public meeting and its associated presentation can also be found on the project web page.

Located approximately 50 miles north of Sacramento, the Marysville Ring Levee project is a multi-phase project that will upgrade the levee that surrounds Marysville. The primary purpose of the project is to strengthen the existing levee by implementing additional measures to reduce the likelihood of through- and under-seepage. USACE is partnering with the California Central Valley Flood Protection Board and the Marysville Levee District to complete the project.
