  • Corps to begin dredging Newport Bay Harbor, completing east jetty repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will begin dredging the Newport Bay Harbor entrance channel and perform repairs on the harbor’s east jetty in mid-April at Newport Beach, California. A $3-million contract to perform the work was awarded Feb. 24 to Pacific Dredge and Construction LLC, located in San Diego. The City of Newport Beach is the non-federal sponsor of the project.
  • Corps to release draft report on ecosystem restoration plan for East San Pedro Bay

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is preparing to release a draft report recommending restoration of aquatic habitat within East San Pedro Bay. The report identifies a Tentatively Selected Plan, which would be the Corps’ first open-ocean ecosystem restoration project in the nation. The plan would provide near-shore and off-shore rocky reefs, kelp reefs and eelgrass beds, and is referred to as the Reef Restoration Plan.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is hosting a public meeting to discuss a proposed remediation plan for the Dry Canyon Artillery Range Munitions Site 01 near Frazier Park, California. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Frazier Park Library, 3732 Park Dr.
  • COASTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH BOARD TO MEET IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

    The Coastal Engineering Research Board (CERB) will meet at Presidio San Francisco, Sept. 9-10, to review current coastal engineering challenges within the Pacific Coastal region. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Observation Post, 211 Lincoln Blvd. Seating is limited and advanced notice is requested.
  • US Army Corps of Engineers closes California Parks and Recreation Areas

    As of Sunday, Oct. 6, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed public access to all parks and recreation facilities it operates in California as a result of the federal government shutdown. All Dam operations and other mission-critical safety and security functions will continue during the shutdown.
