    USACE initiates NEPA and site selection process for new USFS visitor center in Lake Isabella

    Whittier Narrows dam modification study complete, moves into design phase

    A highly anticipated modification study of a Southern California dam has been finalized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is now in the project’s design phase. The Whittier Narrows Dam Safety Modification Study was completed in June 2019 and approved by the Corps’ Headquarters in August. The design phase of the project began in October.

    Corps to release draft report on ecosystem restoration plan for East San Pedro Bay

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is preparing to release a draft report recommending restoration of aquatic habitat within East San Pedro Bay. The report identifies a Tentatively Selected Plan, which would be the Corps’ first open-ocean ecosystem restoration project in the nation. The plan would provide near-shore and off-shore rocky reefs, kelp reefs and eelgrass beds, and is referred to as the Reef Restoration Plan.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Port of Long Beach will host two public meetings in November to discuss the Draft Integrated Feasibility Report (IFR) and Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the Port of Long Beach Deep-Draft Navigation Study.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will hold a public meeting to discuss the draft environmental assessment released last month that outlines the Tule River Spillway Enlargement Project at Success Lake in Tulare County.

    Cochiti Lake swim beach closed due to blue-green algae

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today (Aug. 22, 2019) that effective immediately the Cochiti swim beach is closed due to the presence of a toxic blue-green algae bloom in the lake. Other recreation areas remain open, including the boat ramps and the campgrounds. The closure will last until levels no longer pose an increased threat to humans and animals.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is hosting a public meeting to discuss a proposed remediation plan for the Dry Canyon Artillery Range Munitions Site 01 near Frazier Park, California. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Frazier Park Library, 3732 Park Dr.

    USACE Awards Construction Contract for Folsom Dam Raise Dike 8

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District awarded a $4.2 million construction contract August 8 to Odin Construction Solutions, Inc., of Rocklin, California, to raise Dike 8 at Folsom Lake by 3.5 feet.
